An island alongside the coast of Maine that was house to a mixed-race fishing group later forcibly eliminated by the state has been added to the Nationwide Register of Historic Locations after a years-long effort.

The island, positioned within the tiny city of Phippsburg, was formally listed on the nationwide register on Sept. 19, federal data state.
