A whole lot of academics went on strike in Andover, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, with contract negotiations set to renew within the afternoon.

Lessons have been canceled for the district’s roughly 5,500 college students in pre-kindergarten by twelfth grade after a Thursday evening vote by the Andover Training Affiliation to go on strike.

A negotiation session between the union and the Andover Faculty Committee led by a state-appointed mediator was scheduled for two p.m.

Andover, Massachusetts faculties have been closed Friday as unionized academics picketed for increased wages.

“No one needs to be out right here, we need to be within the school rooms, we’re enthusiastic about educating and delivering companies, nevertheless it has been made so tough by the district to do this successfully,” Matt Bach, a highschool historical past trainer and union president, instructed NBC10 Boston.

The district stated it has supplied 23% raises for starting-level academics and 11% for top-level academics over three years. The union is pushing for 16% raises for all academics over three years. Wages for tutorial aides even have been a sticking level.
