BAILEYVILLE, Maine (AP) — A number of dozen union members have certified for unemployment advantages throughout a month-old strike towards a Down East mill that produces pulp used to fabricate paper, a union official stated Friday.
The employees are believed to be the primary to qualify for advantages throughout a strike in Maine, Danny Loudermilk Jr., a Machinists Union enterprise consultant, stated Friday.

All instructed, about 75 employees from the Machinists Union, Millwrights Union and Service Staff Worldwide Union are placing towards Woodland Pulp in Baileyville. The placing machinists, millwrights, pipefitters and mechanics who comprise a few quarter of the workforce are indignant over the corporate’s proposal to alter job classifications, whereas the corporate stated it is in search of extra flexibility for employees.

Brendan Wolf, the mill’s government director for human assets and security, stated the corporate was notified by the Maine Division of Labor on Thursday that the strike would not disqualify employees from receiving unemployment advantages. The corporate, which is constant manufacturing, is deciding whether or not to enchantment, he stated.

A Division of Labor spokesperson declined remark Friday, saying unemployment advantages are confidential.
Placing FairPoint employees have been granted unemployment advantages after the very fact following their four-month strike that resulted in 2015, however they weren’t eligible for advantages throughout the strike. FairPoint, the area’s phone firm, was later acquired by Consolidated Communications.
