A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed Tuesday evening after his ATV crashed whereas responding to a name about suspected unlawful immigrants close to the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, authorities stated.

The all-terrain car crashed round 7:10 p.m. close to Chino Highway and West fifth Road in Douglas, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Workplace stated.

“The data obtained indicated that the only occupant concerned was a United States Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Douglas Station, Tucson Sector,” the sheriff’s workplace stated.

The agent, recognized as 44-year-old Freddy Ortiz, was heading westbound alongside Worldwide Avenue in response to experiences of unlawful immigrants close to the border. No additional particulars in regards to the name had been instantly out there.

In some unspecified time in the future, authorities stated Ortiz’s ATV left the roadway and struck a set mild pole.

First responders rushed Ortiz to Copper Queen Hospital in Douglas, the place he was pronounced useless.

Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels additionally shared condolences for Ortiz.
